Marques Brownlee, the renowned tech reviewer with 18 million subscribers on YouTube, recently expressed his disappointment with the Saga phone, calling it the “worst phone of the year” in one of his videos.
Background:
Solana’s Saga phone is being hyped as more expensive than the iPhone 15! Multicoin expects more Solana airdrops within a year.
Additional context:
The sales of Solana’s Saga phone have skyrocketed by 10 times! The airdropped token BONK has already surpassed the phone’s price.
Solana, the blockchain platform, launched its first-ever blockchain phone, Saga, in April this year. Initially priced at $1,000, the phone faced issues such as high price and security vulnerabilities, leading to poor sales. In August, the company was forced to reduce the price by 40% to $599, but the market demand remained low.
However, things took a dramatic turn when the Solana ecosystem generously airdropped additional tokens for Saga, causing the value of the airdropped tokens to surpass the phone’s price of $599. This turned Saga into an “investment commodity,” and its sales skyrocketed by more than tenfold. Users even exclaimed, “buy and profit!”
Tech guru Marques Brownlee declares Saga as the “worst phone of the year.”
Despite the surge in Saga’s sales, the phone’s design flaws remain unchanged. Just recently, Marques Brownlee, a prominent tech reviewer with 18 million subscribers on YouTube and formerly praised by the former Vice President of Engineering at Google as “the best tech reviewer on Earth,” expressed his opinion on Saga in his “yearly phone selection” video. He stated that even though Saga regained popularity due to its collaboration with the Bonk cryptocurrency within the Solana ecosystem, it still stands as the “worst phone of the year” in his eyes.
However, Solana Saga’s official response on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) suggests that they are not particularly concerned about this blogger’s negative review of their phone. On the contrary, they responded to Marques Brownlee, stating:
“As an investment product, although Marques Brownlee has a low opinion of Saga, his evaluation is primarily based on pure technological aspects. In this regard, Saga is indeed not comparable to flagship phones like Apple, Samsung, Google, etc. However, what the cryptocurrency community is pursuing is the potential for significant profits from Saga. Currently, the additional income from Saga includes three main aspects:
1. Airdrop income: Besides Bonk, holding Saga allows users to receive airdrops from various other projects and exclusive NFT minting privileges, including Call of Saga, Access Protocol (ACS), Samoyedcoin (SAMO), and Solend (SLND).
2. Mining income: Saga phone owners can mine the decentralized wireless communication network Helium Mobile (MOBILE) and the decentralized storage network ShdwDrive (SHDW). MOBILE has already become a hot asset within the community due to its several-fold price increase in the past month.
3. Resale: It is known that Solana has already announced the complete sellout of Saga in North America last weekend, with only a small amount of inventory remaining in Europe. Even on e-commerce websites like eBay, the resale price of Saga in the secondhand market has exceeded $2,000.
